The CW-3000 isn't a true laser chiller but a basic, passive thermolysis-type water cooling unit that works by radiating heat through a fan and radiator system, similar to a car's radiator. It continuously recirculates water to absorb heat from a CO2 laser tube and then dissipates that heat into the surrounding air. Unlike a refrigeration-based chiller, the CW-3000 does not have a compressor or refrigeration system, so the water temperature will be close to the ambient temperature and cannot be manually set.

An oil chiller works by using a vapor-compression refrigeration cycle to remove heat from heated oil, circulating the oil through a heat exchanger to absorb the thermal energy, and then dissipating that heat to the environment. Hot oil enters the evaporator where it transfers its heat to a low-pressure liquid refrigerant, causing the refrigerant to evaporate into a gas. This refrigerant gas then goes to a compressor, which increases its pressure and temperature. The high-pressure vapor then flows to a condenser, where the heat is released to an external cooling medium, allowing the refrigerant to condense back into a liquid before returning to the expansion valve to repeat the cycle, maintaining the oil's optimal temperature.
