Square cooling towers, often made of Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP), operate on the principle of induced draft counterflow. Hot water enters the tower and is distributed over a fill material, increasing surface area for contact with air. Simultaneously, air is drawn in and forced upwards through the fill, meeting the downward-flowing water. Heat is transferred from the water to the air through evaporation and convection, and the cooled water is then recirculated.
